In order to play college soccer with a scholarship, it is very helpful
to apply through the NCAA. If you are in high school right now,
keep in mind that college soccer has a very high standard of play.
You would do well to attend a few college soccer games to gauge
the actual level of intensity of competition.
No matter how successful you are right now, the only way to play
college soccer is to let college coaches know you are there. It
is important to apply to as many schools and college soccer programs
as possible. The NCAA recruiting service is a very reputable way
to do so.
It is your job to take the first step in being accepted to college
soccer by applying. Many college soccer funding programs end up
not allocating all of their money because suitable athletes did
not approach them.
The NCAA allows each division 1 soccer program 9.9 scholarships
for men, and 12 for women. The ratio in division 2 is 9 for men
and 9.9 for women.
When considering the odds of your receiving a college soccer scholarship,
keep in mind that soccer is an “equivalency sport,”
and many athletic scholarships are not full rides. This merely means
that coaches can share their allocations among a larger number of
their players. Which is better for the players. A partial scholarship
for more is better for most college soccer players than a full ride
for a few.
But if you work hard enough to apply and advertise yourself, and
if you have the skills, remember a full ride is possible.
College soccer involves a lot of time and extreme practicing, but
if you have the capability to get accepted, then enjoy the opportunity!
