 The
Colorado Rapids are Denver, Colorado's Major League Soccer (MLS)
franchise founded in 1996. In the six months before their first
game, the Rapids were able to completely build a franchise from
scratch, bringing in a veteran coaching staff and a solid core group
of players that included many well known international stars.
The team colors are blue and black; the home jerseys are blue and
black vertical stripes. They played their home games at Mile High
Stadium from 1996-2000 and moved into INVESCO Field in 2001. They
plan to move to a new soccer-specific stadium in the town of Commerce
City, Colorado, for the 2007 season.
The Rapids have made two finals in their history: the 1997 MLS
Cup and in the 1999 US Open Cup, losing both times.
