Be sure that you buy the right kids soccer shoes for you child.
Of course, the question is: how can you tell which are the right
kids soccer shoes? Here are some tips to help you make sure that
you find and buy the right pair:
· Realize that your kids soccer shoes are the most important
piece of “equipment” for the game (although, some parents
might say that shinguards have saved their children more than once
from the game of soccer). Soccer is a game that is played mainly
with the feet – it is important to have a good pair of soccer
shoes.
· Depending on whether your child is playing indoors or outdoors
will change which sort of kids soccer shoes you will need to buy
– your child does not need cleats if playing indoors.
· Know that a good pair of kids soccer shoes can actually
help prevent injuries – the better traction your child has
on the field, the less likely he or she is to fall or twist an ankle.
· When shopping for a pair of kids soccer shoes, be sure
to bring your child! Let him or her try on the shoes and tell you
whether or not they are comfortable, etc. Also, besides bringing
your child, you should also bring his or her soccer socks and shinguards
so that you can be sure that you are getting a pair of kids soccer
shoes that fit well.
· Cleats should not fit loosely – they should be snug.
Make sure that the toes come close to the front of the shoes, but
do not actually touch the ends (give your child a little room to
grow into – of course, do not plan on your child wearing a
pair of cleats for two seasons or more: you do not want to end up
getting a pair that is too big and that will cause blisters). A
more advance player may prefer shoes that are even tighter so that
they can feel the ball.
· Basic, regulation rubber studs will be just fine for a
child who is starting out – you do not need to buy youth soccer
shoes with replaceable studs. Such shoes are for older and more
advanced players.
· Make sure that the cleats you buy are specifically made
for soccer – baseball cleats and football cleats, etc. make
look the same, but they are actually quite different. Cleats are
made to stabilize the foot and to provide traction based on different
movements made by players – players make different movements
in soccer than they do in other sports.
· While there is a difference between women’s cleats
and men’s cleats, youth soccer shoes do not differ between
gender. Only when your child is older will he or she need to buy
cleats that are gender-specific (children tend to have the same
center of balance as each other, etc., regardless of sex).
· To make sure that your kids soccer cleats remain in good
shape, stuff them with newspaper when they are wet (this helps them
retain their shape). Also, let the shoes dry naturally – do
not try to blow dry them dry or set them by a heater to dry.
