Soccer is popular all over the world, including the land of siestas
and fiestas, Mexico. Mexico is home to many soccer teams including:
America, Atlante, Atlas, Atletico Celaya, Atletico Morelia, Cruz
Azul, Guadalajara, La Piedad, Leon, Monterrey, Necaxa, Pachuca,
Puebla, Pumas UNAM, Santos Laguna, Tecos UAG, Tiburones, Tigres,
and Toluca.
One of the reasons that soccer is so popular is that you only need
a ball. Almost anyone can play, without having to worry about having
the equipment. Boundaries and soccer goal posts can be made by simply
marking the area with shirts, jackets, shoes, sticks, or rocks.
And people of all ages, levels, and incomes can play.
Even the poorest children in Mexico and around the world can be
seen out in the field, dirt, or street kicking a ball around. Although
proper equipment obviously helps, these kids can be seen outside
playing soccer in bare feet and without shirts. Even in such conditions,
the game is still incredibly fun. Who doesn’t want to be out
on a field mimicking his favorite player or play?
Something new for Mexico and for the United States is the Mexican
Soccer Awards. The Mexican Soccer Awards are a new annual Mexican
soccer event in the US, specifically in Los Angeles. The best players
from the Mexican League will be voted on by Hispanic sports journalists,
and they will those best players will travel to Los Angeles to compete.
