As the saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.” This famous
creed is no less true when applied to soccer. In fact, it is nearly
impossible to improve your soccer skills by any great stride without
at least practicing a little. There are, of course, soccer training
videos that can be watched and mental imagery to be done; but these
things can only help your game if you do them in conjunction with
actually practicing what you’ve learned or visualized.
Very likely, you will not perfect a soccer skill the very first
time you try it, no matter how many times you’ve visualized
it (although, visualizing what you need to do can help). This, among
other things, is why soccer coaches make their teams attend soccer
practices. When a player is at soccer practice, he can perfect his
skills by doing drills, over and over again.
Also at soccer practice, a team can learn to play as a team. Although
individual practicing can be very beneficial, a soccer team needs
to practice together. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue
if your soccer team and not practiced together? Nobody would know
the same plays or even know where to be on the soccer field…
the ball would just be all over the place.
This is why a coach makes his or her team attend soccer practice.
This is also why a coach may get angry if a player shows up late.
Showing up late can disrupt the entire team. A player who is late
may have missed some important information which will have to be
repeated while the rest of the team sits and waits. Being late to
soccer practice also shows disrespect to the entire soccer team,
not just the coach.
There are many different drills that can be run during soccer practice.
There are ladder drills, dribbling drills, and even drills that
do not involve a ball at all. All of these drills are aimed at making
a good player an even better soccer player by strengthening his
or her agility, strength, and overall soccer skills.
Without soccer practice, there could hardly be a soccer game.
