In case you do not already know, soccer
turf shoes are shoes that are worn on artificial surfaces.
Unlike outdoor soccer shoes, soccer turf shoes do not have cleats.
Rather, they have a very patterned sole that gives a player traction
on artificial surfaces. Soccer turf shoes should not be confused
with indoor soccer shoes.
Indoor shoes are, quite obviously, meant for use in indoor arenas.
They also do not have studs, but their outsole tends to be flatter
than soccer turf shoes, for better grip on the surface of play.
If you are planning on playing soccer on both hardwood floors and
artificial turf, it is best to go with a pair of indoor shoes. Buying
multiple pairs of soccer shoes can be rather expensive, and if you
are not yet ready to invest in multiple pairs, consider buying indoor
soccer shoes if you will be switching between hardwood floors and
artificial turf – they will give you good traction on each
type of surface.
Of course, if you have the extra money, you will certainly appreciate
the improved traction and stability that you would get from a pair
of soccer turf shoes when you are playing on artificial turf.
Also, realize that multi-studded soccer turf shoes can be worn
on more than just artificial turf – they are also excellent
shoes if you are playing on very hard ground, in general. So, if
you are going to be playing on a very hard grass field, you can
skip the cleats and wear your turf shoes. In fact, a pair of standard
soccer cleats will not provide enough traction on a hard grass field
– you are much better off wearing your soccer turf shoes,
instead.
In truth, if you try to wear cleats (rather than soccer turf shoes)
on a hard surface, your cleats will wear off faster and might even
break off. It is important to wear the proper soccer shoes according
to whatever sort of surface you are playing on! It is a matter of
safety, too – the better traction you have, the less likely
you are to fall or twist an ankle.
Realize that if you are playing outdoors, the conditions of the
field can change greatly depending on weather. A field that requires
soccer turf shoes one week might require the use of cleats the next
and vice versa. This can happen because of a heavy rain or freeze,
etc.
