The evolution of soccer uniforms has come a long way, from knickerbockers
to nylon and acrylic fibers! Soccer uniforms are composed of a jersey
or shirt, shorts and socks.
During the Victorian ages, soccer uniforms were knickerbockers
fastened snugly beneath the knee, overlapped by long stockings.
The soccer shoes were heavy, similar in weight to common working
boots or army boots. As ridiculous as it may sound to us today,
soccer players often wore caps, sometimes even top hats!
In 1921, the most modern style of soccer uniforms was the common
knickerbockers and tightly fitting shirts.
The pace of soccer, athletics and social attitudes changed over
the years, and the variety in soccer uniforms kept pace. Victorian
kits were eventually replaced by jerseys and long shorts.
Soccer uniforms experienced their most rapid change after World
War II, when shorts in continental Europe, especially Italy and
Hungary, became shorter and soccer uniforms became lighter in general.
Today we enjoy the convenience of advanced, synthetic fibers, such
as acrylic and nylon. These fabrics are commonly used in athletics
for temperature regulation, breathability, and comfort. The less
chaffing and discomfort involved with soccer uniforms, the easier
a player can concentrate on the game.
The traditional bright and vibrant colors of soccer uniforms is
still in use today, but styles and technology continue to change
and evolve.
Most fans enjoy finding authentic or replica soccer uniforms that
represent the official uniforms of their favorite teams. You can
purchase soccer uniforms that look just like what the pros are wearing.
These are comfortable for practice or in competitive games. Not
only athletes are wearing soccer uniforms, however. The fashion
has extended to the consumer public, enthusiastic fans and proud
parents.
