World
Cup 2006 kicks-off 9 June 2006 in the Allianz Arena, Munich.
World Cup 2006 will be worth 24.5 million Swiss
Francs ($18.75 million) to the winning team.
Spain will set up their World Cup headquarters at the Sportschule
Kaiserau in Kamen near Dortmund - the base used by Germany during
the successful 1974 and 1990 campaigns.
US Coach Names Pre World Cup Training Camp Squad
With European-based players in mid-season, U.S. coach Bruce Arena
has named a home-based 30-man squad for a pre-World Cup training
camp at the National Training Centre in Carson, California, beginning
on Jan. 4th 2006.
Nineteen of the players named have 10 or fewer caps and six have
yet to make an appearance for the senior team, including 16-year-old
D.C.
United forward Freddy Adu who earned his first call-up.
The U.S. will play a series of friendlies in California, hosting
Canada on Jan. 22, Norway seven days later and Japan on Feb. 10th.
Arrangements are being made for a Feb. 19 home game and one on March
1st to be played in Europe.
On March 22, the U.S. will face World Cup 2006 hosts Germany in
Dortmund, before playing three friendlies at home in May as a final
warm-up before heading to the finals where they wplay in Group E
with Italy, Ghana and the Czech Republic.
