Aguero to Join Atletico, Become Soccer's Costliest 17-Year-OldMay 31 (Bloomberg) -- Atletico Madrid agreed to sign Sergio Aguero for 23 million euros ($29.6 million) from Argentina's Independiente, making him soccer's most expensive 17-year-old.

The striker, likened to Brazilian Romario by former Argentina coach Cesar Menotti, agreed to a six-year contract, Atletico said on its Web site. A medical test is scheduled for June 5 in Madrid.

``It's the biggest signing in our history,'' Atletico General Director Miguel Angel Gil told sports daily Marca. ``We hope he takes us to the top.''

The 5-foot-6 forward, who wasn't picked for Argentina's World Cup squad, in 2003 became the youngest player in his country's first division at age 15. He got nine goals in 19 games last season.

Atletico, 10th in Spain's top flight last season, replaced interim coach Pepe Murcia with former Osasuna manager Javier Aguirre May 24. It also signed midfielder Costinha, 32, and defender Georgios Seitaridis, 24, from Dynamo Moscow yesterday.

Wayne Rooney became the most expensive teenager when he joined Manchester United from Everton for as much as 27 million pounds ($50.7 million) at age 18 in August 2004.

Theo Walcott set the mark as the costliest 16-year-old when he joined Arsenal from Southampton in January for as much as 12 million pounds.
