Middlesbrough have been given permission by Scottish giants Rangers
to open talks with Danish winger Peter Lovenkrands with a view to
taking the 25 year old to The Riverside.
Rangers official web site have confirmed the talks have the clubs
blessing and that going into the last year of his contract the Ibrox
club would be ready to listen to offers.
The winger who has featured in all of Rangers pre-season games
so far, scoring two goals in the process, has rejected recent overtures
from Portsmouth and Benfica but has made it clear that when he moves
his destination will be either Spain or England.
The Dane joined Rangers from AB Copenhagen in 2000 and had, Real
Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan following his form after a 2 goal
display in the Scottish Cup final victory over Celtic in 2002.
If he completes on a Riverside switch he will join other Teeside
newcomers, Yakubu Ayeqbeni from Portsmouth and Emanuel Poqatetz
from Bayer Leverkusen who boss Steve McClaren will hope can kick
Middlesbrough on to a top four finish.
