Manchester United chief executive, David Gill,
has told the media today that Alex Ferguson has had funds made available
to him.
The worry for many Manchester United fans was that the pursestrings
would be tightened after Malcolm Glazer's controversial takeover
bid, but Gill has assured the fans that Ferguson will be given enough
money to make a big name signing should he find a suitable talent.
"If he identifies a talent that he thinks will improve the
squad - and that is the crucial thing - the funds are available."
Gill said.
There are contrasting rumours as to who Ferguson might splash the
cash on, with Michael Owen being a reported target but also reports
in France are suggesting that Manchester United will attempt to
rival Chelsea for the signature of midfielder, Michael Essien. Given
the aging condition of Manchester United's midfield, this would
seem to be the more favourable option.
