It
is being reported in the national media that Real Madrid are about
to make a £20 million bid for Manchester United defender Rio
Ferdinand if Jonathon Woodgate falls short in his latest comeback
attempt.
Woodgate has not kicked a ball in anger for the Spaniards since
his £13.4 million move from Newcastle 12 month's ago and must
now impress during Real's summer training camp in Austria and Hungary.
There are serious concerns around Woodgates ability to sustain his
fitness throughout a La Liga campaign.
Real are already reported to have met with United officials to
discuss a move for Ferdinand in May of this year but were given
a clear "hands off" warning.
However with Ferdinand's subsequent reluctance to committ to a
long term agreement at Old Trafford the Spaniards look set to return.
The obvious conclusions will be drawn as to why the contract that
would propell Ferdinand among the games highest earners remains
unsigned.
