In
the hot Ohio sun MLS' best defeated EPL Fulham FC in convincing
4-1 fashion.
A sell out crowd of 23,000+ witnessed MLS put on a terrific display
that allowed minimal oppurtunities to the English club and created
quality chances and finished.
While tentative in the early going MLS went on the attack in the
23rd minute as Landon Donovan fed the ball into the box pass the
defense and Taylor Twellman put the first goal away. In the 36th
minute Fulham answered with thier only goal as Claus Jensen converted
a penalty kick on a questionable foul in the box. Going into the
half the score was deadlocked at 1 goal each.
Ronnie O'Brien put MLS back in the lead in the 56th minute taking
a volley from Clint Dempsey and putting it past the keeper. Columbus
fans gave a standing ovation as Fulham's Brian McBride was brought
off the pitch.
The man he is tied with for as Columbus' all time goal scorer,
Jeff Cunningham, came on and helped put the game away. In the 85th
minute Cunningham recieved a ball from Christian Gomez and put it
in off the post. Four minutes later Cunningham burned a defender
leaving himself in a one on one with the keeper putting a second
goal away.
In the end MLS won the game leaving little doubt as to which side
was superior, and Taylor Twellmen recieved man of match honors.
