Michael
Owen's future looks to be in more doubt than ever today as reports
in the Spanish media confirm the arrivals of Julio Baptista and
Robinho.
Throughout the speculation surrounding Robinho's transfer to Real
Madrid, Michael Owen has remained credibly defiant about fighting
for his place amongst the Galacticos. However the surprise move
for Robinho's countryman and Arsenal target, Julio Baptista, have
poured serious doubt over his place in the Real Madrid squad.
£20 million has been splashed out on Robinho, and an initial
£13.5 million on Baptista, price tags that would suggest the
Real Madrid president will expect them to play a major part in Real's
hunt for the title next season. So where does that leave Michael
Owen, as he finds himself way down the pecking order.
He has allegedly been offered to Barcelona who declined making
a bid, with the only other clubs showing reported interest being
Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal. There is a worry however
that Real Madrid will put a ridiculous price tag on his head to
warn off casual bidders.
Last season, he was statistically amongst the best strikers in
Spain, with 14 goals in 22 starts, but now it looks as though he
could well be on his way with suitable suitors in short supply.
