It
is looking increasingly likely that Lee Bowyer will receive a reprieve
from Magpie’s manager Graham Souness and save his Newcastle
career.
After his on field fight with Keiron Dyer last season during Newcastle’s
premiership match against Aston Villa it seemed odds on that Bowyer
would be shown the St James Park exit and indeed he has been linked
to moves to both Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic this close
season but he was selected in the team for The Toons weekend Intertoto
Cup game against ZTS Dubnica which saw the Geordies progress into
the semi-finals with a 5-1 aggregate score.
Souness has recently singled out Bowyer for particular praise describing
him as “a dream to work with” and admitted that he never
wanted him to leave the north east club.
Bowyer, in turn, has said in an interview on the clubs official
web site, that he wants to stay at St James Park and fight for his
place in the side.
If the two parties do find some common ground and an amicable solution
is found to prolong Bowyers association with the Geordies, Souness
will want his faith rewarded with a better standard of conduct both
on and off the field. For certain, Bowyer will be drinking in the
last chance saloon.
